LandWarNet Coud Computing

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

LandWarNet: cloud computing. I know a lot of our engineers were planning on attending it. It’s a related topic that supports Apps for the Army processes – literally.

Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, where shared resources, software and information are provided on demand. Users can access web-based tools or applications and use through a web browser as if it were a program installed locally on their own computer. Clouds often appear as single points of access for all consumers’ computing needs.

IBM Cloud Computing

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

We haven’t really heard from IBM in a long time.  Well, today IBM and ActiveHealth Management unveiled a new cloud computing and clinical decision support solution that will enable medical practices, hospitals and states to change the way they deliver health-care, providing better quality care at a lower cost.

IBM cloud hosting is ramping up and this seems to be a hot topic.  The medical industry could gain a lot from cloud servers as long as the cloud hosting servers are safe and secure.  If health care information was available to all physicians out there, they would better be able to treat and tend patients in a more effective manner.  This could change everything. Medical cloud hosting is the way of the future and will be available here in the next couple years. If deals like this happen more, possibly even sooner than that.

“‘Our health care system needs solutions that can help physicians collect, connect, analyze and act on all the information available to improve a patient’s health. Our solution makes this possible in real-time at the point that care is delivered,” said Greg Steinberg, M.D., CEO of ActiveHealth Management.

Cloud Usage Grows Over 1,000% In One Year For RightScale

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

RightScale announced that cloud computing usage has  increased by over 1,000 percent in one year, from June, 2009 to June, 2010. This increase in cloud server usage reflects three trends:

  1. overall increase in the number of cloud servers in use by RightScale customers,
  2. cloud servers running for longer periods of time,
  3. customers using larger servers.

These changes are indicative of the growing use of cloud computing for production applications. Further underscoring industry momentum, RightScale also reports a significant increase in enterprise customers.  RightScale cloud hosting has seen a huge increase in the past year and is expected to double if not triple the amount of cloud servers in the next year with all the enterprise cloud hosting customers migrating over.

“We are amazed to see how much has changed in the past year, both in terms of the overall amount of cloud computing as well as the applications being deployed,” said Thorsten von Eicken, RightScale CTO. “For example, our customers’ average server runtime has increased 146 percent, and the number of servers running full time has increased 310 percent, which are indications of not only more production applications, but also increasing cloud stability. Our customers are also launching more powerful servers in support of more users, increasing amounts of data, and additional services offered.

RightScale has now launched over 1.3 million servers in the cloud, and we are in a unique position to track customer behavior as a reflection of market trends,” von Eicken continued. “While the cloud market is still in its infancy, we believe the dramatic changes we’ve seen in the past year among our customers are strong indicators of technology maturation and increasing market momentum.”
