What Is A Cloud Server?

The service that is delivered from a network of servers which are connected is referred to as cloud hosting. It is also referred to a cluster hosting. This network of servers is more often than not located at various data centers around the world. They do not have to be located in the same data center. That is how versatile it is.

This type of hosting allows the user to have flexibility. They are able to purchase the resources that they need instead of being limited to what the previous hosting options had to offer. The user is also able to expand or decrease these resources as the need arises without the fear of additional overheads and extra inventory. They are in turn provided with uninterrupted connectivity.

There are other benefits to cloud hosting. Fist of all it is rather cost effective. The clients are only billed for what they use. There is no need to worry about a jump in the cost when traffic surges. The extra bandwidth is not required as everything is load balanced. This type of hosting also provides better performance, flexibility and much better security features. The client can make their contribution to saving the environment as they do not require as much hardware and as a result they use less power.

If you have a small internet business or are just starting out then this type of hosting is for you. Once you have decided to use cloud hosting you can concentrate on building that business without any added concerns or the need to recruit extra staff. It is great for those who are on a very tight budget.

Not so long ago it required a number of IT persons to do what can now be done by one person in no time. You are able to launch your own server with your own code in merely a matter of minutes. It is unbelievably easy to use.

The need to contact the host to increase or decrease your bandwidth is fast becoming archaic with this new type of hosting. Cloud hosting is amazingly affordable with all the options that it has to offer.

Cloud Hosting Basics

Cloud hosting also referred to as enterprise hosting is currently the most trendy and reliable hosting solutions available nowadays. Since its inception it has eliminated a number of problems and challenges that can occur with hosting. This type of hosting has many benefits. A few of these are highlighted below.

The first thing that can be noted about this type of hosting is that it is a group of clustered servers which share processing speed, hard drives, memory and power among other things. It is extremely cost effective and allows for scalability. The joy of this type of hosting is that if for example one of the servers crash then all that has to be done is to get the malfunctioning server replaced.

Cloud hosting is the number one choice for small to medium businesses as it provides consistent service. Due to the cluster of servers that it possesses there is no chance of work being delayed or disrupted. The advantage of this too is that it allows for faster downloads and also offers the option of having more than one hardware or software to be downloaded simultaneously without slowing down the process.

Unlike the long-established hosting methods the user is able to have more than one code as various servers can support different codes. The user is able to have ASP and PHP files. There is no longer the need to make a choice.

Larger businesses are not be left out as they too can benefit from the cluster of servers. It can be quite beneficial on days which the business gets an excess amount of traffic. The resources are more than available to deal with this upsurge.

There are three basic types of enterprise or cloud hosting. There is Private hosting, Public hosting and Hybrid hosting. With these entire options one would think that it would be a costly venture but it is quite the opposite. It is most affordable especially for the newer businesses. The only costs that you would incur are those for the power and space that you utilize. Resources can be added and removed as they are needed.

ThinPrint provides a mobile printing network. They allow customers to obtain a print copy of a document, on demand, from wherever you may be located. Now that bandwidths can handle the traffic, the management software is ready to go, and network printers are becoming more available, the market for cloud-based document printing services is now beginning to heat up.

“What we’re providing is the ability for anybody to print a document from any device to any printer, on any network,” ThinPrint CEO and President Henning Volkmer told eWEEK. “Using ThinPrint, the correct printer is always automatically made available to employees in their session over remote access, no matter if they are in a home, branch, or headquarters office.”

NAS File Cloud Server

Posted on 27th September 2010 by cloudhostingguy in Cloud Hosting

Nasuni Filer v2.0 supports Hyper-V server virtualization, Distributed File System (DFS) namespaces, as well as private clouds, allowing customers to provide their own cloud credentials. It allows users to restore their own files and to create volumes on Windows Azure, Microsoft’s cloud services platform. Simplified file access with Microsoft DFS allows setup of DFS namespace and adding of desired share from Filer as folder target. Software also simplifies security and disaster recovery.

“With every new release, we have a two-fold mission: introducing more customers to the cloud and expanding what a file server can do. Our 1.0, a NAS with unlimited primary storage and integrated backup, was already a strong, innovative foundation, and we’re building from there, pushing the file server to ease even more IT pain,” said Andres Rodriguez, CEO of Nasuni. “Our goal is to make the Nasuni Filer the storage device of choice for coping with data sprawl and the daily demands of the IT workplace. The 2.0 release offers primary storage to the cloud to more users and has exciting new pain-killing features, such as one allowing end users to restore their own files so IT does not have to be dragged into every file restore. We are staying ahead of this market and are excited about fund raising in the fall.”

Apple Today vs Apple 2000

I thought this was a funny example of Apple back in 2000 compared to Apple today.  With all the advances in technology that we have infront of us.  The things we bought yesterday are outdated and are virtually useless.  Alright, you can still play Oregon Trail on this old 2000 Mac but it’s just not the same as WOW or any of the other games out there.  No, I do not play World of Warcraft but I do know the game.   We have so much technology at our fingertips, why aren’t we using it?  Are we still using old technology to power our future.
Cloud hosting is the way of the future and the way that we can all move from the old iMac g4 to the new iPhone4.  We can’t host our sites on servers that are 10 years old.  That’s a lie, we really can and we do but they aren’t near as good as the brand new Dell blade cloud servers that are available to us. Cloud servers are the way of the future, will you be the one stuck on the old 2000 server or the new 2010 blade cloud servers?  I’m gunna go with the cloud servers!
Stats:
1. Google shows us that sites that load faster, get better ranking.
2. When a person visits a website, you  have 10 seconds to grab their attention before they are gone. If your website takes 10 seconds to load you might as well wave goodbye to that person.
3. Pay less, get more
4. Only pay for what you use.

Nasuni released the 2.0 version of the Nasuni Filer this week, with performance enhancements for Windows environments as well as support for Hyper-V, Windows Azure and DFS namespaces, according to an article posted on Enterprise Storage Forum.

The Nasuni Filer is a virtual file server that leverages cloud resources. The cloud gateway supports Windows CIFS shares, ACL and Active Directory in existing NAS environments, and can be used to consolidate a NAS cluster into a single device.

Available as a downloadable virtual machine  image, the Nasuni Filer 2.0 cache keeps copies of working files in local storage for fast access, and deduplicates, compresses and sends file changes to the cloud.

SMEStorage cloud storage announced that its SMEStorage Android application is live in the Google Marketplace.  This new app is the first Android application that allows users to access and manage over ten storage clouds from their Android Phone in one cloud file view.

Files can be viewed and managed from Clouds such as Amazon S3, RackSpace CloudFiles, Box, Apple, Mobile Me, Microsoft SkyDrive, Microsoft Live Mesh, Gmail-as-a-cloud, Email-as-a-Cloud, FTP-as-a-Cloud, Google Docs, and WebDav enabled clouds.

Android has been added in the list of clients that users can use to get access to their files from the platform, said Ian Osborne, CEO at SMEStorage, adding that this application provides access to an “amazing array” of storage clouds right and provides sophisticated file sharing, file security, viewing and sync-to-device features.

“If users are at all like me they will have files in Google Docs, company files in something like Amazon S3, personal Files stored on FTP, and files stored as email attachments on GMail,” Osborne said.  This is officially the first multi cloud storage application that I have found.  Have any of you out there tested out this application?  I would love to know more about the application.  I have an iPhone and it’s not in the iTunes store as of right now.  We’ll see if it makes it there!
