Cloud Security Solutions Company Symplified Raises $9 Million

Symplified, which provides identity and access management tools for cloud applications, has secured $9 million in Series B funding, bringing its total financing to $18.8 million.

The round was led by existing Symplified investors Granite Ventures and Allegis Capital, and included a strategic investment by Quest Software.

The company plans to raise more funding this year.

As cloud computing becomes a more mainstream technology, physician practices and healthcare organizations are evaluating whether this platform holds the answer for a less expensive, more secure alternative to traditional computing networks. To better understand the possibility of this computing power, it is important to examine the cultural impact and the challenges of deploying EHR on a cloud computing platform against the benefits.

Many electronic health records application vendors are providing “cloud-like” solutions such as application hosting or software-as-a-service (SaaS) models. Application services run on remote-hosted platforms as well as on a client (computer or mobile device). Access to applications and clinical data is delivered through terminal services technology or virtual private networks, giving the illusion of a truly web-based application or thin client.

Socially Responsible Web Hosting

Newly launched Web hosting company Cloud Jolt is focused on Web hosting services, as well as an outlet for individuals and businesses to give back to their communities.

This socially responsible business venture was started by four entrepreneurs at Babson College: Augustin Ba, Alex Friedberg, Alex Shearer, and John Rioux.Cloud Jolt notes that for those joining Cloud Jolt, 25 percent of a total payment will be given to the non-profit organization of a person’s choice.

Users will get the opportunity to choose from eight featured charities and can also decide to give to other organizations. Going forward, Cloud Jolt will partner with more charities to give their clients increased choices of causes to support.
