Terremark enters the Cloud Computing Arena

Monday, April 19th, 2010

“There’s not one enterprise today that doesn’t have a cloud strategy,” said Terremark Chairman and CEO Manuel D. “Manny” Medina.  He later gave one example: If a retailer’s website needs to handle more customers for December, it doesn’t need to buy and install more server computers just to handle that temporary high load of visitors. The computers are expensive, and they wouldn’t be running at full capacity all year, so it would be a waste.

Enter the cloud.

That retailer who uses cloud computing doesn’t need to buy more computers when companies like Terremark treat data storage like a utility. Just like when you need more power or more water, it’ll always be there. You’ll just get charged at the end of the month for using more.

Hosting.com Releases Cloud Security Executive Report

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Hosting.com’s 2009 Cloud Computing Trends Report addressed Security as the top obstacle that cloud providers needed to address. Over the past year, security measures for cloud hosting users have improved dramatically due to advancements in network, microprocessor and virtualization technologies.  They later discussed the sources of confusion as they apply to IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) implementations and then outlines the practices and technologies available to keep clouds safe in the areas where they do have unique vulnerabilities.  This will continue to be huge to protect cloud users.

“Clients demanding high levels of application security or regulatory compliance utilize Hosting.com’s Cloud Dedicated solution (single tenant) to store sensitive applications and records and utilize Cloud Enterprise for additional compute resources for non-sensitive assets. Our migration expertise and integrated platforms allow clients to create hybrid hosting solutions to meet their specific business and security needs,” said Hollobaugh.
